Paradise Valley is one of the most popular day trips from Agadir, and it is easy to see why. Less than an hour’s drive from the coast, the road climbs into the foothills of the High Atlas, and suddenly you are in a deep gorge full of palm trees, oleander and turquoise rock pools. It feels like a different world from the busy beach.
This guide covers everything you need to know before you go.
Where is Paradise Valley?
Paradise Valley lies in the Tamraght river valley, on the road from the coast near Aourir towards the mountain village of Imouzzer Ida Outanane. The drive from Agadir usually takes about an hour, along a winding mountain road with beautiful views of the gorge, small Berber villages and terraced fields.
From the roadside parking areas, a footpath leads down into the valley. The walk to the main pools takes around 20 to 30 minutes on a mostly easy trail, with some uneven and rocky sections.
What to see and do
The rock pools
The highlight of the valley is its series of natural pools, carved into the rock by the river. On a warm day, swimming in the fresh, clear water is wonderful. Some pools are deep enough for confident swimmers to jump from the rocks, but always check the depth first and only jump where locals and guides say it is safe.
The palm gorge
The walk itself is part of the experience. The path follows the river through a canyon lined with palm trees, with rock walls rising on both sides. It is a great place for photos, especially in the morning light.
Lunch by the river
Small cafés along the valley serve simple Moroccan food such as tagine, omelettes and fresh mint tea, often with tables in the shade near the water. Many tours include a stop for lunch.
Honey and argan
The region around Imouzzer is famous for its honey, and argan trees grow throughout the area. On the way, you may stop at a women’s cooperative to see how argan oil is made by hand.
When to visit
Paradise Valley can be visited all year. The best time is usually spring, from March to May, when the countryside is green and the river has more water after the winter rains. In late summer and autumn, water levels can be low, and the pools may be smaller. In summer, the valley gets busy, especially at weekends, so try to arrive early.
After heavy rain, the river can rise quickly and the path can become dangerous. Tours may be postponed in these conditions for safety.
What to bring
- Swimwear and a small towel
- Comfortable shoes with good grip, or sandals you can walk in (the rocks can be slippery)
- Sun cream, a hat and sunglasses
- Water and a few snacks
- Some cash for drinks, lunch and small purchases

Safety tips
- Do not jump into pools without checking the depth. Rocks are often hidden below the surface.
