Legzira is one of the most dramatic beaches in Morocco. Red sandstone cliffs drop straight into the Atlantic, and a huge natural arch spans the sand, shaped over thousands of years by wind and waves. Photographers, walkers and paragliders come from all over the world to see it.
Where is Legzira?
Legzira lies on the coast between the small towns of Mirleft and Sidi Ifni, about 150 km south of Agadir. The drive takes around two and a half to three hours, passing through Tiznit.
The arches, then and now
Legzira was once famous for two great arches. In 2016, one of them collapsed, a reminder that this landscape is still changing. One large arch remains standing, and the beach, with its red cliffs and rock formations, is still spectacular.
Because the cliffs are fragile, do not climb on the arch or the cliffs, and avoid standing directly under overhanging rock.
Visit at low tide
The most important tip for Legzira is to check the tide. At low tide, you can walk along the wide beach and under the arch. At high tide, the sea reaches the cliffs and parts of the beach become inaccessible or dangerous. Ask your guide about tide times or check them before you go.
Sunset
Late afternoon is magical, when the low sun makes the red cliffs glow. If you can, time your visit for sunset and a low tide together.

Mirleft
North of Legzira, Mirleft is a small, laid-back town with several beautiful beaches and a growing community of surfers, artists and travellers.
Sidi Ifni
South of Legzira, Sidi Ifni was under Spanish rule until 1969. It still has elegant art deco buildings painted blue and white, a seafront promenade and a slow pace of life.
Is the beach safe for swimming?
The Atlantic here has strong waves and currents, and there are no lifeguards on most of the beach. Swim only in calm conditions, stay close to the shore and never swim alone.
