Agadir Airport Guide: Getting from Al Massira Airport to Your Hotel

Most visitors to Agadir arrive at Agadir Al Massira Airport (airport code AGA). It is a modern, manageable airport with flights from many European cities. Here is what to expect when you land, and the best ways to reach your hotel.

Where is the airport?

Al Massira Airport is located inland, south-east of Agadir. The drive to the city centre and the main hotel zone usually takes 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic and the location of your hotel. Taghazout and Tamraght, to the north, are about an hour away, and Marrakech about three and a half hours.

On arrival

  1. Passport control: queues can be long when several flights land together, so be patient. Keep the address of your accommodation handy, as you may be asked for it.
  2. Baggage claim and customs: your bags may be scanned again as you leave.
  3. Arrivals hall: here you will find currency exchange, ATMs and mobile phone shops.

Money and SIM cards

The Moroccan dirham (MAD) is a closed currency, so you usually cannot buy it before you travel. You can withdraw cash from ATMs at the airport or change money at the exchange desks. Keep your exchange receipts if you may want to change dirhams back when you leave.

Local SIM cards with mobile data are inexpensive and available from the main Moroccan operators, which is useful for maps and messaging apps like WhatsApp.

Getting from the airport to your hotel

Private transfer

A pre-booked private transfer is the most relaxed option. Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, helps with your luggage and takes you directly to your hotel. The price is agreed in advance, and there is no need to look for a taxi or negotiate after a long flight. This is especially convenient if you arrive late at night, travel with children, or are going to Taghazout or Marrakech.

Grand taxi

Grand taxis wait outside the terminal. Fares to Agadir are usually fixed and often displayed, but always confirm the price before you get in. Taxis can take up to six passengers.

Bus

Public buses are the cheapest option, but routes and connections from the airport are limited and involve several stops. They are best for travellers with light luggage and plenty of time; ask at the information desk for current lines.

Car rental

International and local rental companies have desks in the arrivals hall. Driving in Morocco is on the right. Check your rental documents and insurance carefully before leaving the airport.

Tips for your departure

  • Arrive at least two to three hours before an international flight, as there are several security checks.
  • There is a security check at the entrance of the terminal building.
  • Spend or exchange your remaining dirhams before passport control.
  • Argan oil and other liquids must follow the airline’s hand-luggage rules; pack larger bottles in checked luggage.
