Facing west over the Atlantic, Agadir is one of the best places in Morocco to watch the sunset. Each evening, locals and visitors gather along the coast as the sky turns orange, pink and purple over the ocean. Here are our favourite spots, in the city and beyond.
In Agadir
Agadir Oufella (the kasbah hill)
The hill of the old kasbah offers a panoramic view over the bay, the port, the marina and the city as the lights come on. It is the classic sunset viewpoint. You can go up by cable car or by road. Learn about its history in our article on the 1960 earthquake.
The beach promenade
The promenade is lively at sunset, with families walking, children playing and cafés filling up. Sit on the sand or at a terrace with a mint tea and watch the sun sink into the ocean.
The marina
The marina at the north end of the beach is a pleasant place for an evening walk among the boats, with restaurants and cafés.
Around Agadir
The dunes on a camel ride
Watching the sunset from the back of a camel on the coastal dunes is a classic experience. See our camel riding tour.
Taghazout
Rooftop cafés in Taghazout overlook the waves and the surfers catching the last rides of the day. Read our Taghazout guide.
Imsouane
The bay of Imsouane, with its fishing boats and long waves, is magical at sunset. See our Imsouane guide.
Legzira
The red cliffs and arch of Legzira glow in the evening light. Combine the sunset with low tide if you can. Read our Legzira guide.
Essaouira’s ramparts
If you stay late in Essaouira, the Skala ramparts are a famous place to watch the sun set over the ocean. See our Essaouira guide.
Sunset photography tips
- Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before sunset to find a good spot.
- Stay after the sun disappears: the sky often has its best colours 10 to 20 minutes later.
- Use people, boats, palm trees or rocks in the foreground to add depth.
- Expose for the sky to keep the colours rich.
- Check the forecast: summer sea mist can hide the sun, while clear winter evenings are often spectacular.
Practical tips
- Bring a light jacket, as it cools down quickly after sunset, especially in winter.
- Agree on taxi fares before going to more remote viewpoints, or book a driver.
- Keep valuables close in crowded spots.
